This was a slightly different gutter job for an existing customer of mine.
He’s a local landlord and I’ve worked for him several times before, cleaning gutters at a number of his other properties.
This time, he got in touch about his own home – a large five-bedroom property near High Wycombe.
He’d noticed that during the recent heavy rain, sections of the guttering appeared to be overflowing and leaking. Rather than trying to diagnose the problem from ground level, I went over and carried out a free gutter video inspection.
I use an Insta360 camera mounted on an extendable pole for these inspections. It means I can get a clear look inside the guttering and, importantly, show the homeowner exactly what I’m seeing.
Once I got the camera up, the problem became pretty obvious.
One of the downpipes was blocked, there was a build-up of debris in the guttering, and in the areas where he’d noticed water leaking, some of the gutter union brackets had also come loose.
I recorded the inspection and sent the footage directly to his phone.
There was no need for a long explanation or any guesswork – he could see the condition of the gutters and the problems for himself.
After watching the video, he gave me the go-ahead to get everything sorted.
The agreed work was:
- Clear all of the gutters around the property
- Unblock the affected downpipe
- Check the flow through the system
- Carry out the necessary repairs to the loose gutter union brackets
Total price for the work: £280.
For me, this is exactly why the video inspections are useful.
If you’ve noticed a gutter overflowing, leaking or behaving differently during heavy rain, it doesn’t necessarily mean you need to immediately pay for a full gutter clean.
