The patio
This was a full sandstone patio restoration on a property in Marlow.
Over time the surface had gradually darkened and lost its original finish — a build-up of dirt, algae and general weathering that tends to show more on sandstone:
- General darkening across the surface
- Organic growth in the shaded areas
- A loss of the natural colour in the stone
Working with sandstone
Sandstone is a softer, more porous material, so it tends to hold onto dirt and moisture more than some other surfaces.
With sandstone, the key is control — enough to clean properly, without overworking the surface. This patio was cleaned using a controlled pressure-washing process suited to the stone, with the aim of restoring it carefully rather than simply blasting it down.
The result
The natural colour of the sandstone came back through, and the patio looked far brighter and more in keeping with the property.
This job was priced at £425 — the price for that particular patio at the time. Every job is quoted individually.
